Training Rides

Have a question? Training Ride Contacts are Antoni Mikac and Tamara Hunter

There are many rides around Manly that leave outside of Bike Addiction on Pittwater Road Manly each morning. Please note these are not organised by MWCC nor sanctioned in any way, however they do give an opportunity to have a ride around the Northern Beaches.

Many club riders do a variety of routes and we often have different rides on Public Holidays and over Holiday periods.

The routes are generally consistent, but on the odd occasion do vary.

Please review this excellent article on the Do’s and Don’ts of Bunch Riding by Chris White of Randwick Botany CC

Paceline Monday: Leave from bus shelter opposite Bike Addiction in Manly at 5.30 sharp, travelling along Pittwater Road and turn north at Warringah Mall and continue along Pittwater Road. There is a second meeting point on Pittwater Road opposite the Bus Terminal at 5.35.  Pace is easy/moderate until Colloray Golf Course where we form into a paceline and at a moderate/fast pace roll a single paceline to Church Point and return.  The objective for this ride is to get a smooth rythm on taking turns at the front and rolling along in a paceline. On the way back, we turn past Mona Vale Hospital and along the beachfront at Warriewood. Finish at Dee Why RSL, and easy ride back to Manly for a coffee

Tuesdays and Thursdays: Same route and time, however pace is fast out and back. Coffee afterwards in Manly.

Wednesdays: Same Route and times, but an easy recovery ride.

We also have the “Tour de Mosman” ride if you want to do some hills around Balgowlah Heights and Mosman. Leave BA at 5.25. Head along Pittwater road, turn up Condamine St Balgowah, left at Hogan St to Dobroyd Head, along the top of Balgowlah Heights to Peroinne Ave Clontarf, down Spit Hill. We then ride up Pariwee Rd, down into Balmoral Beachfront, up to St Georges Heights, down to Chowder Bay, Mosman Zoo Ferry Station, then back to Manly via Military Rd, Battle Bvd, Errol St, White St and back at Manly at 6.55. Pace is moderate and we wait to regroup at Dobroyd Head, Spit Hill, Parriwee Rd, Georges Heights, and Mosman for all riders

Paceline Friday: Same as Monday

Saturday: ‘Coast and Toast’ leave BA at 5.30 and moderate pace till Newport Hill. Pace picks up around the ‘S’ bends into Avalon and continues till Palm Beach. A safe sprint is encouraged at the pedestrian crossing opposite Palm Beach ferry pier. Roll around to Palm beach front beach and regroup at the beachfront.     Return home at a  moderate pace through Whale Beach via Whale Beach Road and before Avalon Beach, we turn right at George St and head towards Clareville along the Pittwater side. Pace increases up the short but steep ‘Muur’ hill and we do a big loop back towards Avalon Shops along Riverview Rd and Central Dr. We then wind up Avalon hill past the primary school and return to Manly via Warriewood and Narrabeen Beachfronts. The ‘toast’ is back at Manly afterwards.

Manly Cruisers
The Manly Cruisers is a ride open to all, that will start at 6:30am on Saturday from the usual meeting point opposite Bike Addiction, heading out to Church Point and back to Bacino. Being an out and back ride, there are plenty of options for people to turn early if they prefer. So come along to build your fitness, rediscover bike riding or just to socialise. Although not aimed to be a slow ride, this is a cruisier ride and the group will wait for “cruisier” riders. The Cruisers do not ride in the rain. Call Tamara on 0422-115-022 if the weather looks uncertain. Don’t forget to wear your club kit as the Cruisers are a stylish bunch.

All Welcome, however all road rules are followed. Front and rear lights are also required if streetlights are on.
