Get ready for Sydney’s best criterium Grand Tour racer to be decided at ‘Sydney on Speed’. A week long Criterium Series that takes place across Sydney across a variety of courses to determine who has the need for speed and who is a Grand Tour Crit Specialist. Taking place from the 21st – 25th of February this promises to highlight some of the best places to test your legs across Sydney. For Grades A-C and all riders and clubs welcome.
Manly Warringah CC in conjunction with Bon Bon Productions and Nero Racing have come together to look at the calendar and we have acknowledged that there is a plethora of quality racing across Sydney throughout summer. This week long Tour takes in some of those venues that put on racing events that help give the Sydney racing scene its own special vibe.
Sure some riders may consider themselves the King of Heffron, but can they back up that talk and get around ‘that corner’ at the Armoury just two days later? Who has the legs to get over the berg at HART on Friday nights? By then riders are into their third race of the week and the legs are starting to tire as you drag up the outside at HART.
Many riders aim to peak for their one special race of the week, but who can produce the goods over four races in just one week? It is time to discover your skill as a grand tour specialist.
The Criterium Series will operate on the following dates:
Stage 1 – Heffron Park – hosted by ESCC, 21 Feb
Stage 2 – The Armoury – hosted by LACC, 23 Feb
Stage 3 – HART – hosted by MWCC, 24 Feb
Stage 4 – Heffron Park – hosted by RBCC, 25 Feb
The series will be run over Grades A-C with a division for Women placing within those particular divisions. Riders collect points based on entering the races and also their finishing places in those races.
We acknowledge that Heffron Park on a Tuesday night is a handicap and many riders may race below their usual grades, this will all be taken into account when calculating the total points. Riders will then race in their usual grade for the remaining three races (this is to be the same grade across all 3 races) ie. you may race C Grade on Tuesday but B Grade for all remaining races.
There is no special entry into this series. Simply turn up, enter and pay the host as per normal. The formats will be as per the normal races hosted by these clubs. We will collect the entry names and track the results.
After the race at Heffron Park on Saturday the 25th of February we will head over to The Noble Hops – 125 Redfern Street, Sydney for a refreshing ale, race banter and the presentations to the Grand Tour Crit Specialists.
All riders must have a 2017 Cycling Australia Race Licence to participate in the Tour.
