On 27th of June 2001, a friend and former rugby coach of mine had his life turned completely upside down! Todd Eadie, or “tug boat” as he is affectionately known, was a fit and strong 22 year old, loving life, playing football, and planning an overseas adventure. Todd started noticing breathing problems whilst training and playing, and was extremely tired all the time. Several lung and blood tests, and an awful Bone Marrow biopsy later, Todd and his family got the news that nobody ever wants to hear…..Todd had Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) and would require a bone marrow transplant.

10 years down the track, Todd has decided that it is time to give something back to two of the organisations that helped him through the toughest of times, the Leukaemia Foundation (http://www.leukaemia.org.au/web/), and the Arrow Bone Marrow Transplant Foundation (http://www.arrow.org.au/), which brings me to the point of my story….

On the 20th October, Todd will get on his bike at his former primary school, St Joseph’s primary, in Tweed Heads for a 10 day, approximately 950km journey to Sydney, arriving back on the Northern Beaches on Saturday October 29th, stopping along the way at Ballina, Grafton, Coffs Harbour, Crescent Head, Tuncurry, Bulahdelah, Salamander Bay, Belmont and Woy Woy, averaging close to 95km a day.

The bike ride will culminate with a fundraising party at North Curl Curl Surf Club on the evening of Saturday October 29th. The emphasis will be on topping up what has already been raised, celebrating Todd’s 10 year recovery, and starting the recovery from his bike ride.

What Todd needs is support for both the ride and the party. Things such as monetary donations on Todd’s fundraising page, gifts + prizes for the party, publicity for the ride, or even spare parts for the journey. If you or your business could help out in any of these areas it would be greatly appreciated, as well as going to a great cause.
