It is time to come offroad with us as our new season of cyclocross is about to commence. As the original and only club in Sydney to host regular cyclocross racing, this season we are using all of that experience to turn it up a notch. We have brought on board Cell Bikes and Kask Helmets to offer fantastic prizes across the series and we are promising exciting racing that the whole family can enjoy.
With a new race director in the saddle, we may see some different courses being offered up throughout the season. We searched far and wide for the best that Sydney has to offer when making our selection, in the close race we decided that we should bring in a rider who actually designs and tests cyclocross bikes. Dave Musgrove is well known in the Sydney bike scene with his work at Cell Bikes who are also our title sponsor for this series. With that knowledge of what extremes the bikes can handle, we should have some testing sections for all levels of riders.
However our cyclocross isn’t just for the elite riders like Australian Cyclocross rider of the year Gary Milburn who is a regular at our races. 2016 will once again see the free junior cyclocross races which are extremely popular with the children. We have two divisions which are completed on a modified course, which allows parents full view of the action and for the real littlies room to run along next to them. We run a U/7 event and a U/12 event. Riders in these events can ride on any bike that has two wheels. We have children on balance bikes from about 3 years old, bounding around the course. Young kids with their streamers and baskets attached right up to children on BMX bikes and small mountain bikes. These events are all about participation and so as long as they have a bike and a helmet, then there is nothing stopping them giving it a go.
We often find that the young riders are the only ones on the day who complete the course with a small on their faces.
For the adults, we run two separate divisions, depending on your ability/age and bike. If you do not have a cyclocross bike but want to give the course a go on your mountain bike, hybrid commuter, unicycle then you are able to enter our Open Division.
If you have a cyclocross bike, you can either enter our 45 minute A Grade/Masters division or our B Grade/Womens 35 minute race.
Either option is bound to set your heart race, the lactic burning in your legs and a true test of your bike handling skills.
Be ready to not only ride the course but also to run sections, carry your bike and jump over numerous obstacles.
Every round all riders will have the potential to win $50 gift vouchers from cellbikes.com.au and a Kask helmet will also be on offer. All racers and spectators can enter to win a Cell Brunswick 1.0 ‘cross bike, drawn at Round #4 (Sat 16/07).

Escape the tarmac with the adaptability of a cyclocross race bike that is equally capable of being accessorised into the ultimate all-weather commuter or touring bike.
Now in its second generation, it’s fair to ask how we could improve on a bike that claimed BikeRadar’s Editor’s Choice award! With two seasons of ‘cross racing, countless commutes and plenty of gravel adventures aboard the original Brunswick, Cell’s in-house Bike Designer Dave Musgrove knew the subtle changes that would take this great bike, and make it awesome. Updated tube shapes, optimised geometry, wider tyre clearance, improved chain line & heel clearance along with a wider spread of gearing, takes the Brunswick 1.0 to the next level of commuter, crosser or gravel/adventure bikes.
